Q : How big are the camp sites ?
A : Our camp sites vary in size as they follow the lay of the land along the river banks . You
will have as much area as you need , our sites are not cut into little squares like a Caravan Park . Also our policy is to
spread our campers evenly over the whole camping ground , giving you as much privacy and distance to others as possible .
Q : How close to the river can we camp ?
A : Most of our camp sites are right on the water - if you wish you can put one foot in your tent and
one into the water ... We do have some sites a small distance off the river , which may be better at times , depending
on weather conditions or personal likings ( e.g. for small children ) . We will advise you of the best possible
spot when you are here .
Q : Can we have our own camp fire ?
A : Yes ! Each site has it's own fire place , the only restriction is not to build new fire places
or move old ones , as this destroys river banks and your camp sites . ( See also Fireban notice below ).
Q: Where do we get Firewood?
A: You can pick your own firewood in the surrounding bush , bring a ( Chain- ) Saw and an Axe. Note:
No use of chain saws in camp areas! Or bring some wood from home to start with and then pick more when you are here.
We also sell firewood in large bags at the office, this is recommendable if you are arriving after dark.
Q : Is there drinking water available on site ?
A : We do have filtered Spring drinking water on tap at the camp office free of charge . During
very dry conditions we might ask you to use it for drinking only and use river water for your washing up needs .
Q : Is there plenty of water in the river in this dry conditions ?
A : Yes ! There is always plenty of water in the river for swimming and canoeing etc . The rapids may
be low at times and rocky , but the big lake above the bridge is always nice .
Q : Is the area and sites accessible with a 2WD car and a trailer or caravan ?
A : Yes ! The roads are all weather 2 WD access and most of the camp sites can be accessed with a car
and a trailer, many with a caravan .
We do have a few camp sites with 4 WD access for people and groups with 4WD's which like to be this
little bit more adventurous .
For people with caravans please note there are ~20 klm of gravel road on the Wombeyan Caves
Road (either side), which can be of varying condition but is generally wider and in better repair on the Mittagong side. If
you are very concerned about bringing a Caravan in you may like to come for a look one day and make up your own mind or bring
a tent instead.
Q : Is there a Toilet close to our camp site ?
A : Yes ! The Toilets are spread all over the camp ground , within walking distance of each site.
They are on-site "Port-a-Loo"-Pump-Out flush Toilets, no " Long - Drop's ".
Q : Where is the shower ?
A : The shower is near a cottage ( as there is power required for pump and hot water system
) , it is free of charge , hot water and open 24 hrs .
Q : Can we bring pets , under which restrictions ?
A : Yes ! All pets are welcome ! There are no special restrictions , you do know your animal best -
if you feel it needs to be on a lead , put it on , if it is well trained leave it off . Anyway it is your responsibility to
care for your pet . In over 40 years of camping with pets we never had a hassle or a pet left here . A record which we
are proud of ! We find all pets to be well loved family members and well cared for .
Q : Are you very busy ?
A : NO ! on off times and even during holiday seasons. We have a very large area , always plenty of
room !
On long weekends - of course we do have more people than usual and will be busy
( otherwise we had no business) - but we are never as crowded as a Caravan Park during this peak times .
Also we do have a number of very private sites , which give you an area by yourself even when there
are a few more people here than usual . For long weekends it is recommended to book in early as we may stop taking bookings
closer to the long weekend so as not to get crowded out. We like to keep numbers at a certain level.
Q : Do you have a Shop there ?
A : No . We do not have a full Shop , but we do have most basic supplies you might require . Ice ,
milk , bread , drinks , sweets , tin food , fishing gear , ... that sort of stuff . Don't be afraid of asking , whatever it
may be you need . Our supplies are limited however and are meant as supplementaries only - please do your main
shopping before you leave town.
Q : Do you have powered sites ?
A : No, not at this moment . But we can give you access to power points for charging of equipment or
similar . In special circumstances ( e.g. medical equipment )we might be able to plug you into our generator power or
even the mains power - talk to us about your personal need .
Q : Can we use a generator?
A : NO! In special circumstances we do allow limited use of QUIET generators only (e.g. medical reasons).
In any case please arrange with us if you need to use a generator so we can give you a suitable spot. We do promote
BUSH CAMPING and we try to preserve this atmosphere- we don't want generators and lights blasting all over the camping ground
- many of our customers are looking forward to a quiet stay on the river and to enjoy moon & stars at night.
Q : Do you allow trail bikes or 4WDing?
A : We do NOT allow UNREGISTERED trail bikes, QUAD bikes , buggies or any 4WDing in the caming ground itself.
Registered motorbikes are fine same as any other road registered vehicle, and riding of bikes or 4WDing is limited
to areas away from the camping only- please arrange with us when you are here.
Q: What will the weather be like when I come?
A : Well, we used to be spot on in our long range predictions but unfortunately Brian BROKE OUR CRYSTAL
BALL the other day and now we can be out a bit. Sorry!
So if you are VERY concerned that it MAY rain or be hot or cold or windy maybe going camping is not your cup of tea after
all ?? I suggest you just trust your instincts a bit and give it a go, prepare for varying conditions and think positive
- you will enjoy it.
Q : Do you hire canoes?
A : We do hire canoes at times depending on the treatment they receive by users. If you have your own
it's good to bring them or blow up boats. The river is NOT suitable for motor boats , but great for all rowing boats.
Q : Will there be a fireban or a bush fire ?
A : Well I obviously can't say there will be none . But what I can say is :
In over 40 years we never had a bush fire in or close to the camping ground threatening our campers . We always
do a lot of hazard reduction burning every year , making it as safe as possible to be here . Also we are very experienced
fire fighters ourselves ( Brian was Fire Captain for ~ 20 years ) and we do have our own fire fighting tanker on site . Further
the camp areas are very green and of course there is also the river - about 100 metres wide . I would say you are as safe
as you can be .
If there is a total fireban , you obviously can't have a camp fire , but this is rare and we will advise you about this
. Also during dry times we are monitoring fires in the morning and if it's a bad day we put them out , but you can light it
again at night for cooking & pleasure .
All in all you will be able to have a fire at nearly all times , and the bush fire risk is very low . You should always
carry a gas or petrol stove to cook on anyway.
Q : Are there many Mosquitos or Ticks ?
A : No . We have only very little Mozzies , no Ticks and other " little bleeders " , although we can
have flies in summer . But over all , it is a very pleasant Outdoor area .
Q: Do you have horse riding?
A: No , not at the moment( lack of staff), but people bring their own horses at times.
