Protect Australia's Farming
lands from urbanization !
- All land which is suitable for farming should be protected from subdivision for housing and small acerages .
- We are very concerned about more and more farming enterprises moving out west into low rainfall areas because they
make big profits in selling off their good farming land into small acerages and housing blocks .
- The move into low rainfall areas causes all the well known problems with the need for supplementary irrigation , which
again causes salinity and degregation of the western rivers .
- Farmers are now faceing drastic cuts to their water entitlements . If they would remain in higher rainfall coastal areas
, the need for irrigation would be much less .
- Providing food for the worlds population will become the most important task of the future ! We need to work for this
now .
- We were very interested to learn on TV ( National Geographic Channel , 29-May2002 , " People's Planet
" 18-15 PM ) , that Cairo's farming lands are protected from housing , it can only be sold to remain as farming land
. We think our governements can learn a great deal of this , and GFLG will work hard to convince the governement of the need
for this new understanding .
All farm lands should be farmed - not being build on !
